ArmStrong

Construction sites inevitably involve heavy and repetitive tasks.
Such operations can often lead to accidents or cause musculoskeletal disorders after prolonged work.
ArmStrong is a humanoid-type robot based on hydraulic technology, designed to perform heavy-duty tasks at construction sites with a maximum payload of 200 kg.
Its hydraulic manipulator is equipped with 8 degrees of freedom, replicating the range of motion of a human arm and enabling it to mimic many human actions.

Technology transfer of ArmStrong from the Nuclear Research Institute

After the Fukushima nuclear accident, the Nuclear Research Institute developed ArmStrong to carry out disaster response operations in areas inaccessible to humans during nuclear plant emergencies.
Observing the robot’s capabilities, ITONE recognized its potential for construction sites.
In January 2024, ITONE acquired the technology transfer of ArmStrong from the Nuclear Research Institute and modified it into a form optimized for construction site applications.

Armstrong Key Features

ArmStrong is capable of performing general heavy-duty tasks.
By replacing its gripper, it can grasp objects of various shapes, enabling operations such as transportation, loading, and unloading of heavy materials.

Through the exchange of end-effectors, the robot can be adapted to carry out a wide range of tasks.

Armstrong Configuration

Armstrong consists of the robot body and a master remote control device.
The remote control is a wearable device and has the same joint degrees of freedom as the robot’s hydraulic manipulator. Because the operator’s movements are directly mirrored, the control is highly intuitive and convenient.
